As an OT, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside children with Cerebral Palsy and other neuromuscular conditions (and their incredible families). Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how many toys on the market lack true accessibility. Too often, toys aren’t designed with these children’s unique abilities in mind. Instead, they require adaptations, switches, or constant adult assistance to be used. This can lead to frustration for both the child and caregiver - and let’s be honest, play shouldn’t feel like work all the time! I’m looking to change that.

I’m currently researching and gathering input from parents and caregivers to help develop toys that are designed with children’s abilities in mind from the start - no switches or modifications needed.

Additionally, I have a second goal to support rehab therapists by researching the benefits of designing inclusive toys that have etched/visual markers of degrees to track active range of motion through play! This emerging approach represents an untapped opportunity to continuously monitor and support progress in children with neurological disorders.

Your experience matters more than you know. If you’re a parent of a child with cerebral palsy or similar needs, I would truly value your input. This short 3-5 minute survey will help guide the creation of more inclusive toys and more meaningful play experiences, built with your child in mind every step of the way.
